As the nation celebrates its 123rd Independence Day this 12 June, the Civil Service Commission (CSC) cites the heroism of government frontliners who consistently perform their duties amid the risks brought by the COVID-19 pandemic.

CSC Chairperson Alicia dela Rosa-Bala said that the Independence Day is a day of celebration and recollection of the service and sacrifices of our country’s heroes, which include state workers, whether in the public health or in other fields, who serve as essential staff or frontliners for their respective offices.

The Civil Service Commission family joins hands in praying for the repose of the soul of former CSC Commissioner Robert “Doc” Santiago Martinez and for strength for his family in these trying times.

Com Doc, as he is fondly referred to, passed on today, 27 May 2021.

He was appointed as CSC Commissioner in July 2012 and ended his term in February 2018.

The Civil Service Commission (CSC) will hold the Career Service Examination-Pen and Paper Test (CSE-PPT) on 18 July 2021 in selected regions in the country.

The CSE-PPT will be held in Regions VI (Western Visayas), VII (Central Visayas), XII (SOCCSKSARGEN), and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. Procedures have been consulted with and conform to rules set by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases or IATF.

Volunteer health workers in the barangays may apply for a special civil service eligibility, the Barangay Health Worker Eligibility (BHWE), which they may use in applying for a permanent position in government.

A Barangay Health Worker (BHW) is a person who has undergone training programs under any accredited government and non-government organization and who voluntarily renders primary health care services in the community upon accreditation by the local health board and in accordance with guidelines of the Department of Health.

The Civil Service Commission (CSC) reiterates its call for government offices to observe occupational safety and health (OSH) in the workplace to protect state workers.

Joint Memorandum Circular No. 1, s. 2020 issued by the CSC, Department of Health, and the Department of Labor and Employment took effect on 22 May 2020, and after almost a year, we, in government, have been given ample time to ensure adoption of measures that promote safe and healthy working conditions. We have to prioritize the health and well-being of our human capital in the public sector who continue to rise to the challenges posed by the pandemic by delivering uninterrupted services to our people,” said CSC Chairperson Alicia dela Rosa-Bala.
